Deep Dive: Designing Educational Opportunities for Meaningful Learning
In this follow-up workshop, Mary Helen Immordino-Yang will share additional examples of students’ work and thinking, and examine videos of teachers’ practices in real classrooms. We will ask, what does deep thinking look like, and what kinds of teachers’ practices promote or undermine it? What are the brain processes involved, for both students and teachers? How do the most highly effective teachers think about their work? By examining examples of excellent teaching, alongside data from adolescents’ and teachers’ brain activity during authentic learning and teaching tasks, the session will help reveal the hidden asset that all youths bring: the power of meaning-making to grow the brain and mind.
