Learning to Love Challenge
We often offer students choice and control over their learning in the belief that it will motivate them to achieve more, and yet the opposite is often true. In 65 studies analysed by Professor John Hattie (Visible Learning, 2009, 2012, 2014), the average effect on student achievement was so low that it appears too many students pick the easier option much of the time. This keynote will explore some of the factors influencing these decisions and recommend the best ways forward so that all students learn to love – and choose – challenge.
